Navajo Nation Fair Booth

Well, we’re here at one of the largest Navajo Fairs in the country.  Below is a photo of our booth after setup, looking ready to go.  Unfortunately, overnight someone stole our cover girl banner on the right of the image.  Making the best of it and sales of the calendar are brisk and going well!  You can order yours online and at a discount HERE.

Calendar in Final Stages…

Well, reflecting on my last calendar shoot in Santa Fe, NM, it definitely felt like things were upside down.  During our time down there, we encountered weather that included a hot and sunny day, cloudy day, 35 degrees and a snow storm – all in a span of four days! Rented from home owners that were, let’s just say very nice and accommodating but absolutely “over protective.” I had equipment issues [my flash] and we also had our first introduction to a transgender model.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to continue shooting this model for the calendar, because I felt it was not the direction on wanted for my project.  Also, the model didn’t inform us ahead of time of their “uniqueness” and we had to send her/him packing [no pun intended - really].  It made us all feel bad that it had to end that way, but that is what happens when people are not upfront and honest.

Some great things that happened too -

1. Was upgraded to First Class both coming and going on my flights.

2. I went to the casino and won $450!! :-)

3. Met some AMAZING people and lovely models.

4. Helped and enabled a number of the models to explore shooting lingerie and nude for the FIRST TIME.

5. Best of all got some awesome shots to round out my calendar.

I am kinda bummed because I do have one shot (below) that I LOVE and wanted to squeeze into the calendar, but when I looked at the images as a whole collection, it just didn’t fit.  Don’t worry folks, the model, Selena Watchman does appear in the calendar and she is looking just as smoking hot in that photo too (in a more playful, softer way).  Props to my always awesome MUA “Freakishly Beautiful.”

Selena Watchman

Calendar update… should be a matter of a week or so and the calendar will be complete.  I decided to make the calendar 16 months AND include a centerfold page to provide more value to all those supporters [read people who buy] of the calendar.  Also, the search continues for a Native American non-profit charity that I can contribute some proceeds from the calendar sales.  I asked online for suggestions and was a little dismayed that I didn’t get any suggestions.

Confirmed: 2nd Calendar Shoot – Santa Fe, NM

Well, after A LOT of searching for a decent, modern house we came across this little gem (see photo).  It is not the behemoth massive house we had last time, but it is definitely new, modern and unique.  Shooting will take place on April 29th, 30th and May 1 and I still have two slots remaining, for anyone interested in participating and being featured in the calendar.  Details, requirements and the application can be found here: “casting call.

Native American Calendar Update

Ok, so I had been so busy lately shooting, that I barely had time for anything else – like my family!  I felt bad for not having enough time for my two little girls and wife, so I took a couple months off and spent some quality time with them.  I am back at it now and in process of coordinating my calendar shoots down in New Mexico and Arizona either at the end of this month or first week in November.  Also, I have decided to forgo the outdoors shooting because I just can’t risk flying somewhere and having bad weather.  More so, I thought about how I really don’t want to be stereotypical in my approach and what common stereotype is there than shooting Native Americans in the dessert, next to a frigin’ cactus or something.  Sooo… I am now looking to shoot inside, with some kool hip settings … with some super hot models and lighting.  Stay tuned…

NOW CASTING: 2012 Native American Calendar

Scope:

The calendar will contain images of women who have Native American heritage.  I will be shooting on location, in different areas of the country.  I could have went the route of having each woman wear specific tribal accessories, but I decided against it.  There is enough media content, whether it be images or movies, that stereotype the “American Indian” and I prefer not to subscribe to it.  Instead, I’ll keep the intensity and focal point on the model’s beauty – presenting Native American women as sexy, strong and most of all empowered.

Charity:

I have decided to donate $1 for every calendar sold, to a Native American charity.  Still need to find a charity that will embrace my calendar and help to promote / sell it once completed (since they would have something to gain from the sale too).  If anyone out there wants to recommend their favorite charity, please let me know via my “about” page.
